Visiting a new mom and not sure what to bring? Food and boba (if she drinks boba) is always nice. You can also ask her what she wants or needs. Although she may not tell you or may not even know what she needs. If so, below are a few ideas.
Books
Give your new momma some easy quick reads in between feedings and diaper changes. Below are some of my favorites.
Healing Care Packages
You can make your own recovery care package (ideas here). Or you can send her a premade care package. We love these from We Are Amma (we also love their nursing covers).
Eye Masks
New moms are going to try to sleep whenever they can. And sometimes that means in the early morning or the middle of the day. Help them get some shut eye and keep them shut with a luxurious eye mask.
Food Package
Our favorite gift postpartum is a shared meal. We love it when friends or family come over with either fresh made or even store bought food to eat with us. But some times that’s not always convenient (either because they can’t have visitors or if you live far away). Many companies have new parent food gift boxes you can send. Below are two of our favorites.
Home Self Care
It might be a little hard for mommas to get out of the house for a few months postpartum for any self care (i.e. hair cut, pedicure, spa). So why not bring some self care to her. If you know of a good postpartum in-home masseuse, you can get her a gift card for that. Or maybe a one house cleaner. Otherwise, you can send her a self care gift kit or some other self care items to help her feel pampered at home.
Recovery Cook Books
The first 30 days postpartum is all about healing your body, and that includes giving it rest, hydration, and nourishing food. These cook books will help new mommas learn the art of recovery and nourishment postpartum.
Sweets
Food is always an easy, safe gift. I had gestational diabetes with two of my babies and was craving cookies throughout my pregnancies. Levain makes really wonderful and ginormous cookies. They also have great parent gift boxes that comes with coffee and this cute onesie. Or you can send some Jeni’s ice cream, because who doesn’t love ice cream?
Baby Milestone Book
A baby milestone book might seem more of a gift for the new baby, but it’s also something for moms to do during a few minutes of downtime between feeds and diaper changes. Some of our favorite ones are below.
